Kings College Performing Arts Centre

This project required the careful insertion of a modern performing arts centre into a tight space between the Great Hall and a protected avenue of oak trees, a stone’s throw from the historic Memorial Building, Abott Building and Chapel.

The building is designed to book-end the northern façade of the College’s heritage buildings, architecturally playing off the Chapel at the eastern end and referencing the materiality of the other buildings with its multi-tone brick slip facade.

Drawing on the window proportions of the historic buildings, large structurally glazed windows are arranged on the northern facade for views to the oaks and sports fields beyond.

The project also included a new vehicle crossing, changes to on-site parking and pedestrianisation of the western end of the avenue through the College.
